Why build Changi T5, some ask

Why build T5, some ask.

Because Singapore does not rest on her laurels. Rest on your laurels and you become mediocre.

When Kallang Airport was opened in 1937, it was described as 'an aviation miracle of the east' by the famous aviator Amelia Earhart.

But the airport was later moved to Paya Lebar.

When Paya Lebar Airport was opened, it was described by Robert N O'Skea of the Scandinavian Airline System as the 'finest in this part of the world'.

Then the airport moved to Changi.

Changi Airport was recently voted the best airport in the world for the 6th consecutive year.

Had the airport remained at Paya Lebar, this may not have been possible.

Consultants did not recommend the move to Changi because of the cost of relocation plus the $800 million in investments already made on expanding Paya Lebar that will be lost with the move.

Nevertheless the hard decision was made. The airport became Changi Airport and there is no looking back.

To be the best is not easy but to keep your position there is even harder.

Changi is not resting on its laurels and neither should we.

It's now looking at the game changer in Changi T5.
