President of NGO Monitor Gerald Steinberg: HRW made statements without any basis and uses falsehoods and distortions

It was a rare opportunity.

An invitation extended to Human Rights Watch to appear before the Select Committee to give their views and oral evidence.

But HRW chose not to defend their report "Kill a chicken and scare the monkeys".

Professor Gerald Steinberg, president of NGO Monitor told the Select Committee via video conferencing that HRW makes statements without any basis and uses falsehoods and distortions to advocate their agenda.

He said that Human Rights Watch was “more than typical” of other human rights organisations.

They hired people who held “radical left-wing ideology”.

Its founder Robert Bernstein wrote in an opinion piece in The New York Times denouncing the organisation for losing its moral compass.

Prof Steinberg noted that HRW has a “very specific set of political and ideological objectives.

“I don’t think any organisation that relies on donations from people who are politically or ideologically identified and committed will do something that will be inconsistent with that ideology. So funding makes a difference," he said.
