It is as clear as day that PSP Leong Mun Wai was fabricating arguments and pulling wool over people's eyes as he made bogus allegations against the government.

Take a look and understand.

1. 𝐈𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐏𝐏 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐏𝐏 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥 𝐢𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟓, under the terms of agreement, the government would pay SHPL (SportsHub Pte Ltd) a sum of $193.7 million a year.

This works out to approximately $2.32 billion from now until 2035.

That is to say, the Government's financial obligation to the PPP is $2.32 billion if there is no termination.

2. 𝐈𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐏𝐏 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬𝐇𝐮𝐛, the Government would pay the PPP $1.5 billion.

Most of it is made up of the capital expenditure (around $1.2b) which the Government would have incurred if they had built the project themselves.

The Government did not spend a single cent to build SportsHub. They can't possibly take back a billion-dollar project for which they spent nothing to build and just wave goodbye to their private partners, can they? That would be daylight robbery.

Add the estimated operating costs of $800 millions for the Government to operate the project, the total costs come to $2.3 billion.

This is comparable to the amount the Government would incur if the PPP is not terminated.

The entire transaction is financially neutral even after factoring in operating costs for the government to take over SportsHub.

Leong Mun Wai has chosen to ignore detailed explanations, and instead makes a completely baseless and false claim that the termination sum can be lower.

Leaders, whether elected or nominated, must speak with their conscience and not lie to voters without compunction. Voters have a responsibility to see that leaders uphold the sacred office of Parliament and not allow Parliamentary debates to turn into a comedy or entertainment show.

PSP Leong Mun Wai sought to dent the Government’s reputation with the allegation of profligate spending.

He fabricated the argument that the Government was paying SPHL for brand name when no such payment exists.

Profligate spending? Hello, this government is a triple-A credit rated government and there are very few countries in the world that are triple-A credit rated. You don't get this rating with profligate spending.

It is ironic that LMW was the one who kept calling for more spending from our reserves.

As explained so clearly, the amount of money the Government will incur if the PPP is allowed to run to its end, and the amount of money the Government will incur taking over is about the same.

Singaporeans should really learn to be discerning and not blindly applaud people who are lying to you. 

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen says PSP Leong Mun Wai has all the characteristics of a misinformant

PSP Leong Mun Wai has a total disregard for the rules of engagement in Parliament, a total disregardfor other MPs who also want to speak, a total disregard for the answers given to him, treats Parliamentary debates like coffee shop talk and expect rules to be bent for him.

Since 2000, on average, 3,400 new citizens are registered each year to serve their NS duties.

New citizens are not exempted from NS, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said.

New male citizens who stayed in Singapore when young and enjoyed economic and social benefits are enlisted when they reach 18 years of age or older. They number on average 3,400 each year, which constitute about half of all new male citizens registered each year.

Males who receive citizenship as mature adults, typically in their 30s and 40s, are not enlisted as they are not suitable for full-time NS at that age and did not enjoy any benefits prior to their citizenship.

Someone asks: what benefits did he enjoy growing up in Singapore?

Here's the answer: You enjoy formal education that is almost free. Primary school fee is $0, Sec school fee is $5 per month, pre-univeristy school fee is $6 per month. That's just one benefit. We haven't talked about healthcare yet or the subsidised childhood vaccination programme and others.

PSP Leong Mun Wai knows very well the average number of new citizens each year by age and by gender. The information were given to him in Parliament.

Yet, he will continue to mislead Singaporeans with his questions. He is exactly how Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen described - a misinformant who gives half-truths and misleading statements. In short, a dishonest politician.

 How many new citizens are enlisted each year on average? Look at the second paragraph. How many new citizens are exempted from NS? Look at the second paragraph.

It's so easy to be Opposition in Singapore. Leong Mun Wai just claims credit.

The hard work was done a year ago that began with first engaging thousands of PMEs through dialogues, feedback channels and surveys. This is then followed by engaging stakeholders, namely, the employers through SNEF.

The recommendations were the outcomes of many, many engagements and much hard work.

It did not just happen because Leong Mun Wai made a speech and some Facebook posts.

But why are we not surprised that Leong is so quick to claim credit?

PSP Leong Mun Wai was the one who took parliamentary debate past midnight insisting 'not enough information'.

But he was also the one who told National Development Minister Desmond Lee there was too much to read when the minister encouraged him to read the industry transformation map for the construction industry.

And now he complains about not being able to understand the amendments. So does he understand what he is opposing?

PSP Leong Mun Wai calls for a 30% quota on foreign talents.

PSP calls for a 30% quota. On top of that, they want a 10% on nationality. They also want top management positions to be ringfenced for Singaporeans.

PSP's policies will make the environment so hostile, that no foreign investor will consider Singapore to build any new business. They will also yurn Singapore into a mediocre country with their protectionism.

When companies come here, they hire Singaporeans and also foreigners. But they are also committed to training Singaporeans to take over more jobs.

Dr Tan See Leng said in his speech in Parliament:

"Indeed many companies tell us that they prefer to hire locals over foreigners, so long as they can find the skills here. Even if there is initially a shortage of skills, many are willing to develop local talent to fill these roles

Take for example PayPal.

When it first started, it had to rely more heavily on global talent for specialised technical skills and more senior roles that required managing regional teams.

However, PayPal committed to hire and train 150 Singaporeans across tech and business roles over 3 years."

The PAP Government's strategy is to attract good investments here first to entrench the jobs here even if we do not have enough local talent. We train up our people. In this way, they create good jobs not just for current Singaporeans but also future Singaporeans.

Because we welcomed Mizuho Bank in the early 2000s and allowed them to employ 60% foreigners, today, more Singaporeans have access to good jobs in the bank.

Populism is always shortsighted, focuses only on the present and uses an emotional argument. But thankfully, Singaporeans are mostly rational, reasonable and pragmatic because ultimately, it is about them and their children's future.

Desmond Lee tells Jamus Lim and Leong Mun Wai to read the ITM

One excuse often heard from the Opposition is that not enough information is made available to them. Yet, whatever information that is available in the public realm, they don't even bother to read.

National Development Minister Desmond Lee encouraged WP Jamus Lim and PSP Leong Mun Wai to read the Industry Transformation Map for the construction sector to better acquaint themselves with the progress and development in digitalizing the sector.

Jamus has no response to being asked to read to find out more.

Leong Mun Wai's response was that he has no time to read. So many pages of materials coming out of Parliament every day. Where got time to read?

Is there too much information? Too little information? Too little time?

Shanmugam tells PSP Leong Mun Wai to put up a motion on CECA for debate

Singapore has been going down the path of racism and xenophobia. Let's see which opposition politician will stand up and consistently speak against racism and xenophobia and not pay lip service in Parliament.

In Parliament, Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said that if Singapore continues to fan the flames of racism, we will get to an uncomfortable position.

He said:

I am looking at you, Mr Leong. I invite you to put up a Motion to debate CECA. You know that most of what is said about CECA is false.

And, what is happening on the ground? We are picking up from different coffeeshops. This morning, a friend of mine overheard in a coffeeshop, a conversation between five elderly gentlemen. They discussed the incident covered in the media of an Indian expatriate family.

We don’t know the facts. Several highly racist comments targeting Indians. So, it’s getting to the ground, and being repeated.

Singapore is 725 square kilometers of rock. We have to make a living by being open to the world. We will fail if we allow racism and xenophobia to become prevalent, and it is contrary to everything that has made us successful and proud to be Singaporean.

We are not 3.6 billion people with a large market to offer the world.

We are a tiny rock with 3.6 million Singaporeans whose government has managed to negotiate trade agreements with countries much larger than us through good governance, good policies, and by making ourselves relevant to the world.

Law Minister Shanmugam has issued the challenge to PSP Leong Mun Wai to move a motion to debate on CECA if he thinks it does not benefit Singaporeans.

Stop the xenophobia. Have a debate in Parliament instead and let every falsehood be put to rest.

Likewise, if WP supporters think the same on the CECA, they should ask WP to move a motion to debate on CECA. After all, they voted them to be their voice in Parliament. What's stopping them?

Singapore's success is built on multiracialism. If we do not treasure multiracialism, we will lose it.

The Significant Infrastructure Government Loan Bill - also known as SINGA

The Significant Infrastructure Government Loan Bill - also known as SINGA - was passed in Parliament yesterday.

The Bill allows the Government to borrow for huge infrastructure investments while spreading repayment over generations of Singaporeans. This approach is fair as such infrastructure investments are enjoyed by generations of Singaporeans, so each pay for their share of the investments.

With Singapore's triple-A credit rating, Singapore is able to borrow at low interest rates while reinvesting our reserves for higher returns.

The triple-A credit rating is the result of fiscal prudence and sound fundamentals.

However, we have an opposition that wants to erode this sound financial position.

WP for example, wants more of NIRC (currently 50%) to be made available for recurrent spending. This means less to reinvest and therefore less returns to spend in the future.

Not only that, they want land proceeds to be used directly for spending. Selling assets to spend is the fastest way to deplete reserves.

And then there is PSP Leong Mun Wai which thinks we have huge reserves and there is thus no need for the government to borrow for large infrastructure investments.

Such calls for in no time, erode our fiscal position and therefore, fiscal rating as well.

Our fiscal rating is hard earned. There are very few countries left in the world that have a triple-A credit rating. It is a rating not to be taken for granted.

We hope that the opposition can be more responsible not only to present Singaporeans but also to the young and to future generations of Singaporeans.

Leong Mun Wai says Police cannot use TraceTogether data

Will Leong Mun Wai or Tan Cheng Bock still stick to this position if their child or grandchild is kidnapped? Will they say Police have enough tools to solve crime and they don't need TraceTogether data?

It’s not whether Police already has enough tools in their bag. It's the case of 'if an additional tool will help Police crack a crime more efficiently and speedily, why deny them the tool'? And by crimes, we are referring to serious crimes.

We have seen in recent days how unsolved murder cases have brought immense grief with no closure to the families concerned. Each crime solved brings a measure of closure.
