Interestingly, the architect in the proposed plan to renew 38 Oxley Road was introduced by Lee Hsien Yang.
For all their complaints about the renovation of the house, LWL and LHY were part of the family discussions way back in 2012 as emails released by PM Lee showed.
They were in the loop. They had plenty of time to raise any objections they had - including that the house has magical properti...es to raise the standing of LHL - to their father! But they didn't.
So why the objection now? One is reminded of ESM Goh Chok Tong's speech in Parliament:
"I have come to the conclusion that neither money nor the house is the real issue. The dispute over 38 Oxley Road is only a fig leaf for the deep cracks within the family, cracks which perhaps started decades ago.
What then is the agenda of PM’s accusers? ...
I have kept my ears open. From what Lee Hsien Yang and his wife are freely telling many others, it is clear that their goal is to bring Lee Hsien Loong down as PM, regardless of the huge collateral damage suffered by the Government and Singaporeans."
Thankfully for now, all three siblings have agreed to resolve their dispute in private. Hopefully, this will be successful and also lead to a reconciliation.
