LKY: World Statesman of the First Rank according to Richard Nixon
In
making his toast, then President Richard Nixon described founding Prime
Minister Lee Kuan Yew as a WORLD STATESMAN OF THE FIRST RANK who:
(1) ran Singapore well "with respect for the great traditions of FREEDOM" and
(2) helped US to "develop the kinds of policies that will maintain a
world in which freedom can survive for larger countries like the United
States and for smaller countries like Singapore".
